Opelousas Mable Marie Melancon Dupont, 94, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Lake Charles. Mable will be sadly missed by her devoted family and everyone else who knew her. Her gracious spirit, positive attitude, uncanny ability to always find the good in everyone was testament to her deep faith in God. Her willingness to always let Him guide her, unconditional love and forgiveness were her gifts to everyone in her life. In addition, her adventurous spirit and gratitude for life created a spirit of joy while in her presence.
Mable was born Dec. 2, 1918 in Opelousas, LA, the youngest of twin girls to Leonce and Florentine Cormier Melancon. Due to illness, she was raised as a daughter by her Aunt and Uncle, Luke and Florence Mo Mo Cormier Dupuis in Carencro, LA. She cared for her beloved Mo Mo the last 14 years of her life.
In 1937, she graduated from Carencro High School and then worked as a sales clerk for Abdallas in Opelousas. After her marriage to Clet Joseph Dupont on June 16, 1940, they moved to Alexandria where they raised their three children. During this period, Mable worked for Stanly Home Products, Cinderella Cosmetics and Presto Pride Waterless Cookware, attaining a district manager position in each of these ventures being very gifted in the ability to close a sale. Also, she was a Weight Watchers Diet plan Leader where she proved her ability to motivate her clients through encouragement and patience.
As a devout Christian, Mable was a longtime member of Cabrini Catholic Church in Alexandria and St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas as well as Christian Life Center in Opelousas where she made a multitude of lifelong friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clet Joseph Dupont, Sr. both sets of parents, Luke and Florence Mo Mo Dupuis and Leonce and Florentine Melancon twin sister, Mildred Melancon deVeer and two brothers, Robert Melancon and Royal Roy Melancon.
She leaves in her memory one daughter, Donna Dupont Cooper and husband, Robert Bob of Lake Charles two sons, Clet Joseph Dupont, Jr. CJ and wife, Fay of Hammond and S. Luke Dupont and wife, Co Co of Lafayette 6 grandchildren: Ricky Lane Dupont, Terry Wayne Dupont, Clet Joseph Dupont III, Steven Gillett Cooper, Lynette Cooper Tieder, and Rene Luke Dupont 16 greatgrandchildren, and 12 greatgreatgrandchildren.
Mable will be greatly missed by her family and friends but leaves behind such wonderful memories and a capacity to love for all to emulate.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Alexandria Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Alexandria, LA. Rev. Father James Brady will celebrate the Mass.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Reflection service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
