Mrs. Mabel Martinez David
Port Barre Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Martinez David, 90, will be held at 10: 00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2007, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Father Nicky Trahan will officiate the services.
Graveside services and Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Resthaven Cemetery in Baton Rouge, LA.
Mrs. David died on Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 6:50 a.m. in the J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home of Arnaudville, LA. She was a native of Labadieville and a long-time resident of Port Allen. She was a past resident of Port Barre for the last 14 years.
Mrs. Mabel was a cook in the local supermarket and a catechism teacher in Port Allen for many years. She was also an Honorary Member of the Port Allen American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. In her spare time, Mrs. Mabel enjoyed sewing and reading. She was a loving wife, and a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include one son, Carl David and wife, Rachel of Nashville, TN; two daughters: Claudia Gaton and husband, Charley of Graham, TX; and Cindy Barron and husband, Dale of Port Barre; one brother, Norman Martinez of New Iberia; one sister, Dorothy Clark of Florida; one daughter-in-law, Anne David of Arnaudville; 16 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude David; two sons: Daniel David and Carrol David; her parents: Clerphe and Emily Vedros Martinez; two brothers: Harold Martinez and Maurice Martinez; two sisters: Virgie Stephens and Mildred Naquin; and one daughter-in-law, Diane David Franklin.
Visiting hours will be observed on Friday, September 21, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. for the family and from 11:00a.m. -10:00p.m. for the public in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a. m. until service time.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home. A Prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
