Lydia, age 85, a native of Sunset and a resident of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, March 29th, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Lydia was a lifelong educator, throughout her career she taught at St. Ignatius, Edgar Martin Middle School and Judice Middle School. Later in her career she answered a calling, that she treasured dearly, that being working with special needs students. Lydia loved being outdoors working in the yard and tending to her garden. She was passionate about her family, friends and her Cajun Heritage. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly referred to her as Granny, Gran-Gran and Granola. It was said Lydia never met a stranger, loved to dance and she was known to be a real character. In the most recent years Lydia enjoyed swinging on her porch and watching the occasional jet fly above leaving a stream throughout the sky always wondering where they may be going. She loved deeply, unconditionally, and will be remembered for her contagious laugh. Lydia will be deeply missed by her family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Gino Sibille (Ann); daughter, Jan S. Gillum (Randy); brother, Lincoln Savoie (Maggie); 7 grandchildren, Ammie Robinson (Brandon), Crissy Greene (Sy), Mandy Stephens (Thomas), Hunter Sibille, Chase Sibille, Micah Gillum (Sarah), Aranda Gillum; 11 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Faith Robinson, McKenzie and Chloe Stephens, Eden, André, and Raphe Greene, Grace, Macie, Aden and Ben Gillum.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Horaist Sibille; parents, Deogene Savoie, Sr. and Constance Burleigh Savoie; son, Tommy Sibille; brothers, V.H., Odell, and J.D. Savoie; and her sisters, Bertha Mayo, Ethel McCormick and Louella Dorsey.

Pallbearers will be Lincoln Savoie, Chase Sibille, Brandon Robinson, Sy Greene, Aaron Dodge, Denny Dodge and Thomas Stephens.
The family would like to offer a sincere thanks to the staff of Maison de Lafayette, for their exceptional care, kindness and compassion, shown to Lydia over the past two and half years.
