Lowell Sibille, Jr.

OPELOUSAS-A Funeral Service will be held for, Lowell Anthony "Popsie" Sibille, Jr., on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Dean Rydbeck will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau.
Lowell, Jr., age 79, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at his home.
Lowell, Jr. attended Commonwealth College of Sciences in 1960 receiving an associate's degree in Mortuary Science. After graduating Lowell, Jr. and Sylvia moved to New Orleans, LA where he was employed with J.P. McMan and Son's Funeral Home for 13 years. Lowell, Jr. and Sylvia decided to go into business for themselves in August of 1972 in Opelousas, LA; where they became the co-founders and owners of the Sibille Funeral Home. Following the opening of the Opelousas location they preceded to open three more locations in the towns of Port Barre, Grand Coteau and Washington. They were very successful in their profession and in 1990 built the current Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas which still exist today. Lowell, Jr. was a Funeral Director for 56 years; receiving an award from the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association for his years of dedication to the business in 2016. Lowell, Jr., at the age of 79 was still an active member in the funeral home upon his death.
Lowell, Jr. loved meeting and making friends; not only in his community but everywhere he traveled. His passion was poker, which he played every chance he could. He even went as far as writing a book on how to play the game. Lowell, Jr. enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Jill Sibille Manuel and husband, Mark, Lowell Sibille III and wife, Wendy, and Blane Sibille and wife, Kitty; former wife, Sylvia Dodge Sibille; step-children, David Doucet and wife, Jacinda, Chuck Doucet and wife, Melanie, Michelle Pavy and husband, Felix, and Nicole Dupre and husband, Ray; sisters, Josephine Kuntz and Juliette Kuylan and husband, Doug; grandchildren, Nicole Dupuis Omicioli and husband, Mike, Seth Dupuis and wife, Lorali, Allie Dupuis Schexnayder and husband, David, Aston Sebastien, Blair J. Sibille and wife, Muneera, Saxon S. Sibille and wife, JaNaye', Blane Sibille, Jr. and wife, Angela, Kara Sibille and Ariel Sibille; great-grandchildren, Brach Minyard, Sophia Dupuis, Daimen Sebastien, Gabrielle Omicioli, Scarlet Omicioli, Mary Dupuis, Amelia Schexnayder, David Michael Schexnayder, Julia Dupuis, Rebecca Ann Sibille, Aven Sibille, Bruce Sibille, Dean Sibille, and Blane Sibille III.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lowell Sibille, Sr. and Monique Guilbeau Sibille; wife, Dolores Quebedeaux Sibille, daughter, Jeanine Sibille; and sisters, Camille and Elizabeth Sibille.
The family requests visitation be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The Rosary will be prayed by Reverend James Brady at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Visitation will resume on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.
In memory of Lowell Sibille, Jr. the family request in lieu of flowers donations be made St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
