Louise Pitre

Opelousas-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal and interment will follow at St. Bridget Catholic Church Cemetery in Lawtell.


Louise was a native of Grand Coteau and a longtime resident of Opelousas. She passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 87. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She graduated from Sunset High School. She worked for Litton Insurance Agency for 20 years. Then, she continued to work with Louisiana Companies for 5 years.
She lived an active life by walking and playing tennis until she was 75 years old. She enjoyed oil painting and reading novels. Her greatest love was traveling with her husband in their motor home.
Survivors include two sons, Gordon J. Pitre of Prairie Ronde; and Michael "Scott" Pitre and wife, Emily Venable Pitre of Opelousas; one daughter, Marilyn Pitre DeJean and husband, Kenny DeJean of Sunset; one brother, Vernon Richard of Harvey; two sisters, Gladys R. Chachere of Opelousas; and Mary Alice R. Robin of New Iberia; five grandchildren, Krystal Pitre, Kristopher Pitre, Shellie Albarado and husband, Chris; Micki DeJean, and Abigail Pitre; and three great-grandchildren, Kameron Soileau, Brayden Albarado, and Briley Albarado.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Pitre; her parents, Henry Richard and Electa Smith Richard; three brothers, J. Y., Harry, and Herbert Richard; and three sisters, Catherine R. Whiteside, Edna R. Burleigh, and Grace Richard, a.k.a Sr. Julia.
Rev. Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Abigail Pitre and Briley Albarado will be the gift bearers. Readers will be Susan Richard Pousson and Chriss Pitre Castillo. Rite of Committal and interment will follow at St. Bridget Catholic Church Cemetery in Lawtell with Deacon Sammy Diesi officiating. Music will be provided by Lolita Lemelle and Tiffany Etienne. Pallbearers will be Gordon Pitre, Scott Pitre, Chris Albarado, Brayden Albarado, Kenny DeJean, and David Robin.
The visitation will begin on Friday, January 8, 2016, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas at 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. On Saturday, visitation will continue at 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
The family would like to express a heartfelt appreciation and thank you to Miss Lou's special caretakers, Mary Lavergne and Tammy Lavergne. The family is extremely grateful for the loving care that they provided over the last four years.
Special thanks to Dr. Gary Blanchard, Dr. Hunt deBlanc, and to the nursing staff and assistants on the PCU floor of Opelousas General Health System for their wonderful medical care.
