Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Louis Pershing Fontenot, Sr., age 91, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Fr. Paul Metrejean will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Fontenot was a native of the Grand Prairie area and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at his residence after a length illness.
He served during WWII in the U.S. Army and loved his Country and comrades. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Local VFW in Opelousas. He spent most of his working years at LouAnna Foods and retired as a supervisor. Mr. Fontenot enjoyed spending time with his family especially at the camp on Three Mile Lake. He enjoyed listening to French music and also dancing to the sounds of the French bands. Mr. Fontenot never met a stranger and made many friends in his lifetime. He was a very loving and giving husband, father, grandfather and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Joyce Pitre Fontenot of Opelousas son, Louis P. Fontenot, Jr. of Scott daughters, Dorothy Hebert and husband, Daniel of Baton Rouge Mary Quebedeaux and husband, Chester of Baton Rouge Elizabeth Liz Guedry and husband, John of Baton Rouge Kathleen Kathy York of Lafayette sister, Ethel Jansing of New Orleans 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Eliza Fontenot grandson, Mark Allen Hebert soninlaw, Bud York brothers, Willie Ortego and Shirley Paul Fontenot and sisters, Mable Boudreaux, Manette Hargroder, and Irene Phillips.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, August 30, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
