Lorraine Soileau

OPELOUSAS- It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Lorraine Hidalgo Soileau.  She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She went to meet Jesus peacefully on December 1, 2022 at her home in Opelousas, Louisiana.  She was 92 years old and a native of Opelousas. Lorraine was a devout Roman Catholic and a long time parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church and then Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

She is survived by 3 daughters:  Joan S. Farrar and husband Tony of Church Point;  Katherine (Kitty) S. Wyble of Opelousas;  and Connie S. Speyrer and husband J. Phillip of Rayne;  son:  James Alex Soileau and wife Charlotte of Opelousas;  2 sisters: Elsie Soileau and Betty Deviile, both of Baton Rouge; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Harry Soileau; her parents Albert Hidalgo, Sr. and Eve LaGrange; brothers; Ronald Hidalgo, Joseph O. Hidalgo and Albert Hidalgo, Jr.; sisters Nelma Fontenot and Wanda Brown; and son in law, Robert Craig (Bobby) Wyble.

Loving gratitude is offered to Dr. Hunt DeBlanc, Racquel Gradney and staff in Opelousas; Lafayette General Hospital; and Hospice of Acadiana.

Visitation will take place on Monday, December 5, 2022 at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas and will open at 9:00 a.m. for the family and 10:00 a.m. for the public. Rosary and Chaplet will start at 10:45 a.m. and will move to the church at 11:30 a.m. Mass will start at 12:00 noon at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, with Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen officiating.  Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, consider honoring Lorraine by remembering her in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the most efficacious prayer of the Catholic Church.
