Lorraine Hohbach Dupuis, age 94, passed away on February 26, 2018, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home, where she had received compassionate care and hospice services from the kind, professional staff.
Lorraine was born August 19, 1923, in the prairie town of Plankington, South Dakota. She grew up during the Great Depression, on an isolated farmstead, with her father and mother, her three brothers, and two sisters. Their days consisted of hard work, church, and school in a one room schoolhouse. Lorraine loved telling her children about walking the three miles to school, which she and her siblings did many times, even on snowy days.
Soon after her high school graduation, Lorraine left for distant LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She attended business classes at a night school, where she learned stenography. This allowed her to get a good paying job. One night, she attended a USO dance at nearby Camp McCoy, where she met Beauregard Dupuis, who was training in the elite Army Rangers Corps. B.D. and Lorraine married shortly after he returned from World War II.
In addition to being a housewife and mother of five, Lorraine very much wanted to have a full time job. She used her stenography skills to get a job at Opelousas General Hospital, where she became head of OGH Medical Records. Lorraine worked hard at everything she did, including homemaking. Throughout her life, she tried hard to improve the lives of those close to her, and she imbued in her children the value of hard work and a job well done.
Lorraine is survived by her two sisters, Carol and Sharon; four of her six children, Michael, Pamela, Juliette, and Elise; eleven grandchildren, Beau, Steve, Tyler, Zack, Matthew, Betsy, Henry, Eva, Lauren, Dennis, and Lessley; and seven great grandchildren, Lola, Sabra, Donovan, Theodore, Bailey, Skylar, and Weston.
The Dupuis family will hold a private ceremony honoring Lorraine. Inurnment services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Cemetery in Celcilia, LA.
Words of Comfort to the family may be expressed at www.sibillefuneralhomes.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
