Opelousas- A Funeral Service will be held for Lessie Rose Phillips on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 12:00 noon in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Brother Chad Norman will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Lessie Rose Phillips, born on April 9, 1929, departed this life peacefully at 95 years of age, on October 15, 2024, at The Carpenter House. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and devotion that echoes through the lives she touched.
A devoted homemaker, Lessie cherished her traditional way of life, embracing the joys of home and family with an unwavering heart. Her marriage stood as a testament to love and partnership, radiating affection and mutual respect through the years. Lessie's spirit found solace in the simple pleasures of life; whether it was hand sewing thoughtful gifts for her family and friends, concocting delicious meals that brought everyone together, or losing herself in the pages of a good book, her joys were the thread that stitched her family closer together.
Lessie’s laughter and companionship were often found in the company of friends, especially during lively games of bingo that brought bright memories and endless joy. As a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church in Opelousas, Lessie's faith was a cornerstone of her life.
Lessie is survived by her son, Uriah "Chip" Phillips, III and wife, Joley; her brother, Ferrell Lavergne; her sister, Rita Bernita Fredieu; her grandson, Brandon Phillips and wife, Lindsey; and her great-grandson, Walker Phillips.
Lessie is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Uriah Phillips, Jr.; her parents, Leonard Lavergne and Dana Guillory Lavergne; and her sisters, Barbara Dupree and Geraldine Noel.
Pallbearers will be Chip Phillips, Brandon Phillips, Kevin Dupre, Mark Dupre, Heath Woodrum and Mike Landry.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Cornerstone Nursing Home for all their love and care. They would also like to thank her beloved caretaker, Carolyn Dominick, for her years of love and care.
In her final moments, surrounded by the love of her family, Lessie’s spirit soared to the heavens, leaving behind not only memories but also an indelible mark of love and grace.
