Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Leroy J. Richard, Sr., age 72, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Chaplain Patrick Braquet will officiate the services.

Mr. Leroy was a native of Arnaudville and was a resident of Opelousas. He died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at his residence. His occupation was an offshore cook. Leroy was a true cowboy by heart and his passion was horses. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mrs. Joe Mell Bergeron Richard of Opelousas; Children: Gloria A. Richard of Port Barre; Mary H. Richard Crouchet of Port Barre; Rogers J. Richard, Sr. of Opelousas; Roderick J. Richard, Sr. of Opelousas; Cora L . Richard of Lake Charles; Leroy J. Richard, Jr. of Lafayette; Bridget A. Kelley of Franklinton, LA; Amy M. Ledet of Bridge City; Tina M. Stryzewski of Opelousas; and Wilton J. Arnaud, Jr. of Church Point; two brothers, Arthur Richard, Jr. and John Richard; 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Ametile Allemond Richard.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, from 8 a.m. until time of services in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas.
