Leonce Richard
Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. Leonce Richard, age 87, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.
Father Nicky Trahan will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Leonce was a long-time resident of Port Barre. He died on Saturday, November 15, 2008, In the St. Landry Extended Care Hospital in the Opelousas.
He was a retired truck driver from Wyble and Grimmitt and Boh Brothers Construction Co. He was a devoted husband of 69 years. He was also a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and walking with his twin brother three miles daily regardless of the weather.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Belle Guillory Richard of Port Barre; one daughter, Mary Stroud of Port Barre; four brothers: twin Leo Richard and wife, Jesslyn of Port Barre; Knute Richard of DeRidder; Eugene Richard and wife, Buelah Mae of Highland, TX; and Joseph Topie Richard, Jr. and wife, Joyce of Sulphur; one sister, Winnie Rose Watson of Sulphur; four grandchildren: Bryan Keith Tiger Rutledge, Sr. of Port Barre; Tammy Rutledge of Simmesport; Amber MacEachen and husband, David of Mesick, Michigan; and Terry Paul Rutledge and wife, Connie of Baton Rouge; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mary Lynn Stelly; his parents: Joseph and Thodealia Richard; son-In-law, James Stroud; two brothers: John and Wilfred Richard; six sisters: Azalie Thibodeaux, Amy Bellard, Lillian Deville, Marie McLean, Verna Mae Fruge, and Julia Nichols; and his stepmother who raised him, Ezora Daigle.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Keith Rutledge, Sr., Terry Paul Rutledge, Bryan Keith Rutledge, Jr., Tony Richard, Ricky Dale Richard, Leo Richard, Jr. and Robert Richard.
Visiting hours will be observed on Sunday, November 16, 2008, from 1:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
