Leon Shorty Duplechien

Opelousas Funeral services for Leon Duplechien, age 83, will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 23, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bridget Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell. Father Austin Leger will officiate the services.
Leon, was a native of Coulee Crouhe La, and was a longtime resident of Prairie Ronde. He passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Leon was a farmer for many years then he went to work for Common Wealth Insurance Company where he retired, he enjoyed gardening, and loved raising cattle. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years Mrs. Judy Duplechien of Prairie Ronde, his children Michael Duplechien and wife, Charlene of Prairie Ronde, Beverly Carriere and husband, Lee of Opelousas, Rita Hargroder and husband, TBoy Didier of Opelousas, Marie Dale Joubert and husband, Bruce of Lafayette, Arlene Richard and husband, Ollie Sonny of Washington, and one step daughter, Angie Johnson and husband, Al of Basile, his brothers Leroy Duplechien and wife, Marie of Gonzales, Hilton Duplechien and wife, Angie of Lafayette, and Jean Duplechien of Lafayette, and sister, Edina Smith of Eunice, ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Leon Troy Duplechien, parents Clophed and Alexandrine Thibodeaux Duplechien, brother, Polastron, Ovelien, Lloyd and Jean Baptiste, one sister, Armeza Oliver. And was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Eurella Fontenot.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, December 22, 2011, from 10 AM until 10:00 PM. On Friday, visitation will continue from 8 AM until time of service at 10:00 AM.
A rosary service will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel.
