Leon Andrus, Sr.

Port Barre – A Funeral Service will be held for Leon “Sonny” Andrus, Sr. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Port Barre. Interment will follow in the Elizabeth Talley Reaux Cemetery in Port Barre. Brother Benji Richard will officiate the funeral service.

Sonny, age 68, a resident of Port Barre, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette. He retired after thirty years as a construction superintendent. Sonny was a devout Christian and a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Port Barre, where he enjoyed serving the Lord and cooking for the congregation.  You were lucky if you ever tasted his fried choupique! He had a passion for fishing, hunting, and crawfishing.  His greatest joy was spending time with the love of his life, Karen and his children and grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 48 1/2 years, Karen Dubroc Andrus, sons, Joseph E. Andrus (Gigi), Leon Andrus, Jr. (Allison), daughter, Chrystal Hidalgo (Erin) all of Port Barre, grandchildren, Riley and Makenzie Andrus, Ethan and Eli Hidalgo, Jaylon and Adalynn Andrus, sisters, Dianna M. Bourque (Gerald), Jerry Ann Andrus, and Mary Ann Berlin all of Port Barre.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, Earl Lee and Mary Ella Johnson Andrus,

A visitation will be held at Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will resume on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be, Joseph Andrus, Leon Andrus, Jr., Erin Hidalgo, Riley Andrus, Ethan Hidalgo, Eli Hidalgo.

Honorary pallbearer will be Jaylon Andrus.
