Leo Decou

January 19, 1932 — July 3, 2016

Opelousas- Catholic Funeral services for Mr. Leo Paul Decou will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Arceneaux Cemetery in Rayne. Fr. Jared Suire will officiate the services.

Leo was a native of Cecilia and a longtime resident of Port Barre. He passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at his home at the age of 84. He was a U. S. Army veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Standard Fittings for many years. He also was a custodian until his retirement. He was eager to help work with the elderly with the Council on Aging. He was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington. He loved gardening, farming and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61years, Verna Decou of Port Barre; two sons, Michael J. Decou, Sr. and wife, Lorenda of Opelousas; and Rodney W. Decou and wife, Angelia of Iowa; two daughters, Virginia "Jenny" D. Tate of Opelousas; and Christine D. Broussard of Port Barre; brother, Esta Decou of Texas City, TX; four sisters, Edelle Devillier of Opelousas; Mary Alice Lavergne of Church Point; Mary Lee Montie of Toledo Bend; and Etta Terro of Sulphur; 10 grandchildren, Marlana Bergeron of Moss Bluff; William Nicholas Decou of Westlake; Julia Benoit of Kaplan; Michael Decou, Jr. of Opelousas; Marcus Decou of Opelousas; Adam Casey Tate of Port Barre; Amanda Lynn Tate of Lawtell; Keith John Daigle, Jr. of Port Barre; Ashley Daigle of Port Barre; and Travis Daigle of Port Barre; and 10 great-grandchildren, Baylee Bergeron, Haylee Bergeron, Kollin Decou, Isabella Decou, Cameron Benoit, Kade LaBove, Ezra Decou, Timberly Decou, Bryce Vidrine, and Asher Daigle.

Preceded in death by his parents, Leo William Decou, Sr. and Angelina Stelly Decou, sisters, Edith Thibodeaux, and Geneive Stears; brothers, Joseph Nicholas Decou, and Leo William, Jr.; grandson, Joel Decou; and son-in-law, Dwayne Tate.

Pallbearers will be Michael Decou, Sr., Rodney Decou, Michael Decou, Jr., Marcus Decou, Travis Daigle, and William Nicholas Decou. Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Tate, Adam Casey Tate, Sean Bergeron, Ashley Daigle, and Keith Daigle, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, beginning at 11:00 a.m. for the family and 12:00 p.m. (noon) for the public until 10:00 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
