Larry Zerangue, Sr.

July 2, 1947 — May 18, 2014

Opelousas Mass of Christian Burial Services for Larry Zerangue, Sr. age 66, will be held
on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.
Reverend Father James Brady will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will
follow in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Opelousas.
Mr. Larry Joseph Zerangue Sr., local businessman and long time law enforcement official,
passed away at his home May 18, 2014. Larry was born and raised in Opelousas, LA and
was a graduate of Opelousas High School. Larry started his career as a Barberhair stylist
with a certification from New Orleans Barber School. Larry was simultaneously working
with the New Orleans Narcotics Vice Squad. In 1968 Larry returned to Opelousas as a
Narcotics Investigator for the Narcotics Task Force for Opelousas Police Department and
was commissioned by Sheriff Adler Ledoux where he was commissioned as Chief
Criminal Investigator for the St. Landry Parish Department. In 1970 he was appointed as
Chief Detective. In 1973 he graduated from the Lafayette Police Academy with special
training in homicide crimes. In 1974 he was awarded Outstanding Law Enforcement
Officer by the Opelousas Jaycees. In 1974 He was a graduate from the National Bomb
Data Center Federal Bureau of Investigation, and attended and graduated from the
Louisiana State Police Academy as a Bombing Investigator. He was a graduate of
Louisiana State University in advanced Criminology in 1974. In 1975 Larry was
recognized by CNN for recovering over one and a half million dollars of stolen goods
during a nine month period. Larry was a certified diving instructor and was awarded the
Advanced Open Water Diving Award, Search and Recovery Diving and Diving Master
Award. Larry was a certified LEA Lie detection Technique utilizing the Mark III voice
analyzer and body study analyzer. Larry retired from law enforcement in 1987. Mr.
Zerangue was an entrepreneur and owned several local businesses such as Zerangues
Detective Agency, the Archway Lounge, and Classics Restaurant, and also worked as the
Head Investigator of Internal Affairs for Harrahs Casino in New Orleans, during the
establishment of the casino. In 1995, he started Zerangues Bail Bonds, Inc., which is
currently operating nationwide, and is one of the largest General Agencies in Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dianna Gail Huval Zerangue, his four children, a
son, Larry J. Zerangue, Jr. and his wife Connie and their children, Kamin Zerangue,
Bowman Guin, and Bryson Guin another son Keith Zerangue and his wife Charisse and
their four children, Isabelle, Ivy Jade, Brice and Dillon a daughter, Tiffany Chiasson and
her husband Blaine and their two children, Alex and Ethan Chiasson and his daughter
ToniJeanae Zerangue Jumonville and her Husband John E. Jumonville III and their four
children John Enoul IV, Julia Elinore, Jackson Emile, and Joseph Elijah Jet
Jumonville. Larry was loved by all and had an infectious laugh. He loved entertaining,
fishing, hunting, collecting antique cars, and spending time with his family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2014 from 9:00 am until 10:00 p.m.,
and reopen on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. A Rosary Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on
Wednesday.
