Larry Stelly
Opelousas-Funeral services for Mr. Larry Stelly, age 67, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Landry Catholic Church of Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Myrtle Grove Cemetery in Opelousas.
Msgr. Louis Melancon and Fr. Mark Melancon will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mr. Larry was born in Opelousas and was a longtime resident of Port Barre. He died on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Opelousas General Health System after a brief battle of cancer. He was a member of the Carpenter's Local Union for over 25 years. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, cooking and smoking meats. He also enjoyed spending time with the family and having coffee with his friends at Dimick'sBumper to Bumper. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Gloria LaCombe Stelly of Port Barre; one son, Chuck Stelly and wife, Joyce of Grand Prairie; three daughters: Deanna LeJeune and husband, Keith of Port Barre; Jennifer Moran and husband, Patrick of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Kim Kartchner and Billy Kartchner of Port Barre; one brother, Floyd J. Stelly and wife, Betty of Port Barre; one sister, Geraldine Gerry Fontenot and husband, Shelton of Baton Rouge; brother-In-law, Clayburn Bertrand of Opelousas; and and 11 grandchildren: Krissy, Attie, Kade, Gabe, Kyle, Alia, Amy, Madison, Landon, Henry, and Esme.
Mr. Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Clifton Joseph Stelly and Mrs. Emma Guillory Stelly; and one sister, Joyce Bertrand.
Visiting hours will be observed on Sunday, September 21, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home on Sunday evening.
