Kiyoe Sonnier

PORT BARRE– A Funeral Service will be held for Kiyoe “Kimmie” Kimura Sonnier, on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Port Barre. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.

Kimmie, age 96, born in Sapporo, Japan, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at her residence in Port Barre, LA.

After marrying in Japan while her husband was serving in the U.S. Army, she moved to Louisiana where she devoted her life to raising their five children.

She loved people, Cajun food, and taking care of those around her. In her later life, she enjoyed staying active, riding her bike around town, wrestling her grandchildren, and visiting her countless friends. She cherished spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

She will be remembered as hard-working, knowing no stranger, giving whatever she could to anyone who needed, and the rock of her family. Kimmie will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Kimmie is survived by sons, Jerry Sonnier, Bobby Sonnier (Jenny), Kirby Sonnier (Brenda), Edmond “Eddie” Joseph Sonnier, Jr.; daughter, Debbie Sonnier Buckley (Randy); 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Kimmie is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Edmond Joseph Sonnier, Sr., and grandson Si Gabriel Sonnier, and is finally reunited with them in God’s Kingdom forever.
