Kirtley Paul LeBlanc, Sr.
Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. Kirtley Paul LeBlanc, Sr, age 86, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, in the Sacred Heart Catholic of Port Barre. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Port Barre. Rev. Nicky Trahan will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial service.
Mr. LeBlanc was born in the Waxia area and spent his adult life In Port Barre. Mr. LeBlanc passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 11:45 p.m. at his residence.
Mr. Kirtley graduated from Port Barre High School and after his return from World War II he was employed in various jobs including Superior Butane, Port Barre Assistant Fire Chief, and plant manager at Savoie's Sausage Plant. He was a member of America's Greatest Generation. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II as a platoon sergeant in the Anti-Tank Company, 382nd Regiment, 96th Infantry Division. He participated in the armed invasions of Leyte, Philippines and Okinawa, Japan. He was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was also awarded the Bronze Star, American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Presidential Unit Citation. He was a hero to all of his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Port Barre, The Yambilee Campers Association and Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Charlene Marie LeBlanc, children, Kirtley Paul LeBlanc, Jr. and wife Gretchen, Jennie Lynn Boeneke and husband Dwight and Sheila Ann Emonet and husband Charles; sister and brother in-law Joan and Jimmy McCarthy and sister Helen Basile. He had 7 grandchildren, Mark Emonet and wife Adriane, Scott Emonet and wife Jody, Emily Leblanc Hedden and husband David, Lance Paul LeBlanc, James Randy LeBlanc, Brandi Boeneke Welch and husband Andy and Joshua Boeneke. He had 8 great grandchildren; Matthew, Alex and Colby Hedden, McCall, Brooks, Davis, Ellie and Isabella Emonet. They all loved and will miss their PAW. Mr. LeBlanc will be sadly missed by not only his family but by the many friends and the community of Port Barre.
Mr. Kirtley was preceded in death by his parents:Frank and Emily LeBlanc and his brothers JamesBubbie, Frank Sonny, Gussie Gus and sister Daisy Bootsie.
Pallbearers will be the male grandchildren, Mark, Scott, Lance, James, Joshua and grandchildren in laws David and Andy.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Monday, August 18, 2008, from 2:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night.
