Kent was born July 27, 1937 in Belcher, LA. He lived most of his youth in Melville and married Patricia Ann Richard of Opelousas on May 15, 1960. He worked in the construction industry for many years and became an expert operator of various types of heavy machinery. He eventually started his own company, Kent's Construction, in 1967. In 1979, he founded Kent's Emergency Railroad Service, and later, Emergency Railroad Services, which he owned till his retirement in 1993. Kent developed a reputation throughout the region as a man of character and honesty, one who could "get the job done" and succeed in a task or solve a problem others thought impossible.
In his spare time, he loved to hunt and enjoyed the outdoors, working with his cattle, riding horses, or cutting hay on his tractor. During his retirement, he was very successful in Team Roping, where he won numerous belt buckles, trophies, and prize money. From the time he was a young boy till he retired, he strived to work hard and be the best at everything he did. He will be remembered as a faithful husband and a loving father who always provided for his family, and taught the value of hard work and integrity to his sons.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Richard Curtis of 56 years 9 months, children, Dean and wife Sandra, Joey and wife Denise, Welborn (Bill) and wife Christina, 5 grandchildren, Nathan, Kenneth, Constance, Zachary and Lauren. Brother, Harold and wife Carolyn, sister, Jeannette, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Welborn and Anne Curtis and a son Patrick Dirk Curtis.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Tuesday, February 28, 2017 from 8 a.m. till religious services at 10:30 a.m. in Sharon Baptist church.
