Opelousas-A memorial service will be held for Keith Randal Fontenot at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015, at Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in
Opelousas. Services will be conducted by Rev. Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Bellevue Memorial Park with military honors at the graveside.
Keith was a native and longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at his home. He was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on August 3, 1949, to Alphan and Yvonne Roberie Fontenot. Upon graduation from high school, Keith joined the U. S. Army. He served his country fighting during the Vietnam War in 1969 to 1975. He drove a patrol boat down the Saigon River fighting for peace. He also fought in Phnom Penh and Australia.
He entered oilfield and became a consultant and mud engineer for Chemrish and M. I. Drilling until his retirement.
Keith enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He was an excellent hunter and loved to fish. He would do woodcarving as a pastime and loved to collect Indian artifacts. Reading was another of his great hobbies and History has always been his passion. He would read about other countries and their methods of survival. Keith was an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking at home for his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his sister, Kathy Fontenot Saucier of Opelousas; two sons, Justin Fontenot and Marc Fontenot, both of Mississippi; one daughter, Melissa F. Rollins and husband of Mississippi; four grandchildren, niece, Andrea Montgomery and husband, Shad of Youngsville; nephew, Brian Saucier and wife, Amber of Opelousas; two great nephews, Reese Montgomery and Lincoln Saucier; and one great niece, Londyn Saucier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphan and Yvonne Fontenot; his grandparents, Altere and Ezare Fontenot; and Jules and Mary Roberie; nephew, Chad Saucier; and great niece, Addison Montgomery.
The family gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
