Opelousas-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, Kathryn "Tina" Doucas Elder Walker, at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 19, 2018, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in Myrtle Grove Cemetery.
Tina was a graduate of AIC in 1964 and attended LSU. She eventually would own and manage her family's restaurant, the Palace Café, which first opened in 1927. Tina and her husband took sole proprietorship of the Palace Café in 1991. She was known as the "Nicest Woman in Opelousas" as well as the "Minister of Misinformation." Tina enjoyed dancing, cooking with her grandchildren, and attending LSU games. She was a devoted wife and mother and an astute businesswoman. Tina, a life long resident of Opelousas, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was 71 years old.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Steven Douglas Elder, and loyal dog, Gaston, of Opelousas, LA; daughter, Laurie Elder Bell and husband, Robert, of Bellaire, Texas; and grandchildren, Isabella Elder, Lucia Raborn, and Eva Raborn.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Elder; second husband, Bill Walker; parents, Steve G. Doucas and Ethel Castrinos Doucas; and her sister, Mary Ellen Doucas.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary Service will be prayed by Deacon Sammy Diesi at 10:00 a.m.
