Katherine Hidalgo Lynas

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Hidalgo Lynas, age 84, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Green Oaks Mausoleum, Baton Rouge, LA, at a later time.

Rev. Gregory Lynas will officiate the service.

Mrs. Lynas was born on January 19, 1924, in Opelousas and was a long-time resident of Opelousas and Baton Rouge. She died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, in the Opelousas General Health System. Mrs. Katherine met and married her husband, George in Wyoming while serving her Nation as a W.A.C. in the U.S. Army. She served our Nation during World War II. They enjoyed 49 years together and raised a wonderful and loving family. May God bless her and George for all eternity.

She is survived by her sons: Barry Lynas and wife, Charlotte of Frisco, TX; Bob Lynas of San Antonio, TX; Mike Lynas and wife, Donna of Durango, CO; and Tim Lynas and wife, Debra of Cornith, TX; brother, Larry Hidalgo of Lafayette, LA; sister, Joann Duncan of Opelousas, LA; eight grandchildren: Jesse, Jonathan, Greg, Molly, Shannon, Stephen, Kiwi and Sophie; and four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Lynas was preceded in death by her husband, George Lynas, Jr.; and her parents, Merrick and Eula Boone Hidalgo.

Visitation will begin on Friday, January 2, 2009, at 8:00 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.
