OPELOUSAS- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, June Chachere Carriere, on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Myrtle Grove Cemetery in Opelousas.
June Chachere Carriere passed away at her family home on Sunday, November 19, 2017 surrounded by her family. June was a home maker, but involved in the Opelousas Women's Service League and the Daughter of the American Revolution. She sang with her sisters for gatherings and with the St. Landry Catholic Church Choir for over 60 years. She loved to sit on her porch swing reading or visiting with family and friends. She was known for her New Years Eve parties, which always had live music, singing, and outstanding food. She was an avid reader, loved music, and sharing the stories of her 200 year old home. She loved animals, especially her dog Shelby. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Beatty (Jim) of Mt. Herman, LA; her sons, John A. Carriere (Susie) of Lafayette, Bryan B. Carriere (Jane) of Opelousas, and Bruce E. Carriere (Debbie) of Rhoresville, MD. She was affectionately known as Gammy to her grandchildren, Christine Beatty Navarre, Jim Beatty, Jr., Bryan Beatty, John Carriere III, Rebecca Carriere Christofferson, Bert Carriere, Dori Carriere Comeaux, Leslie Carriere, Sally Carriere Berg, and Elliott Carriere; and great grand children, Beau Navarre, JT Beatty, Alex Beatty, Matt Beatty, Katie-Beth Beatty, Evelyn Rose Christofferson, Lionel Christofferson, Kaitlyn Carriere, Aiden Carriere, Nathan Soileau, Katie Torres, Yoli Torres, Viviana Torres, Alex Torres, Elise Carriere, and Jacob Berg. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Allie Carriere; her parents, Dr. Russell B. Chachere and Ethel Edwards Chachere; her sisters, Lillian Chachere Mayne and Ethel "Num" Chachere Smith; her brothers John Elliott Chachere, Frank Basil Chachere, Albert Lyle "Sam" Chachere, and James Berchman Chachere.
