Julie Martin

Julie Annette Martin, 72, of Opelousas, La. passed away at her home on Monday, November 4, 2019. She is preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Kerr of Washington, La; her father, Raymond Paul Martin of Lafayette, La and a brother, Raymond Paul Martin Jr. She is survived by two sisters, Mare and Fern Martin of Opelousas and a brother, Albert Luke Martin and wife Patricia of Cypress, Texas.

She graduated from Opelousas High School and completed two years of Art Study at UL. In her career as an artist she illustrated several children’s books and from an early age recorded her connections with Nature with drawings, paintings and stories. She was an avid political cartoonist and produced a line of “All-O-Cajun” Greeting Cards and posters depicting themes honoring her Cajun heritage.

She was a devout Catholic and sang in the choir at Our Lady Queen of Angels for many years.

She was a beloved Aunt to many, many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Her light showed a better part of the world. She loved people and many times greeted strangers with: “Don’t I know you?”
