Robert was a native of Eunice and longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Lafayette General Medical Center - Southwest Campus at the age of 82.

"Bobby" to his friends, Robert Brinkman was a well-respected, talented, practitioner of the law. After finishing law school, he practiced law as a solo practitioner for several years before joining the staff of J.Y. Fontenot, and then Morgan Goudeau as an assistant District Attorney. He will be remembered as a fair but tough and tenacious prosecutor. He retired as the First Assistant District Attorney to run for and was elected to District Judge of the Twenty-Seventh Judicial District, where he served with distinction and was known for his preparedness and devotion to see that justice was done in every case coming before him.

During his years as an attorney, prosecutor, and judge, Bobby Brinkman was well known for his willingness to mentor young lawyers coming into the profession and many of the area's now older attorneys recall the many times he gave good, reliable professional advice to those who asked for his counsel.

Bobby was an avid hunter, fisherman, and sportsman. He played guitar for many years, with such groups as Harold Fontenot and Hadley Castille and loved listening to music when he wasn't playing.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carylon Fontenot Brinkman of Opelousas; two sons, Robert "Rob" Brinkman II of Covington; and Eric Brinkman of Sunset; two daughters, Denise M. Brinkman and partner, Pat Church of Eugene, Oregon; and Kimbala Brinkman of Port Barre; one brother, Gary Brinkman of Jackson, Mississippi; one sister, Mrs. Stuart "Paula" Fortner of Baton Rouge; and five grandchildren, Ross Brannon, Seth Brinkman, Ian Brinkman, Abby Brinkman, and William Brinkman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence William Brinkman, Sr. and Hazel Thibodeaux Brinkman; three brothers, Laurel Brinkman, Allen "Ray" Brinkman, and Clarence "Boo" Brinkman, Jr.; and two sisters, Virginia Stafford and Henrietta "Vickey" Brinkman.
