Joyce Lavergne

Opelousas– A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joyce Elaine Richard Lavergne on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Visitation will be held in the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time; the rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Joyce, age 96, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Oschner Lafayette General Hospital surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joyce is survived by her son, Leander J. “Joe” Lavergne, Jr. and wife, Susan of Lafayette; daughters, Julie Richard of Baton Rouge, Jill Lattier and husband, Kenneth of Opelousas, Jayne Falk and husband, Thomas of Lexington, SC, Jennifer Rockar and husband, Richard of Kingston, GA; brother, Charles W. Richard, Jr. and wife, Linda of Opelousas; 8 grandchildren, Leander J. “Lee” Lavergne III, Elaine Kimiyo "Kimi" Brown, Lauren Noelle Lavergne Wilson, Ross Patrick Moran, Rachel McKenzie Moran, Franklin Roy “Trey” Brown III, John Michael Lattier and Christopher Wayne Lattier; 6 great-grandchildren, Kirsten Mutrie, Harlee Richard, Julia Lavergne, Leander J. Lavergne IV, Thomas Wilson and Lily Wilson.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Leander J. “L.J.” Lavergne, Sr.; daughter; Elaine Marie Lavergne; granddaughter, Kelley Richard; parents, C. Wallace Richard, Sr. and Julia Comeaux Richard; brother, Desmond Richard; sister, Glenda Gail Thibodeaux; son-in-law, Adolph Carroll Richard.
