Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce D. Stelly Bertrand, 71, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
MSGR. Robert Romero will celebrate the Mass. The readings will be done by Monique Fontenot and Deanna Stelly Lejeune. The gifts will be presented by Harli and Alli Matt. The music selections will be done by Chuck Stelly.
Mrs. Joyce was a native and a long-time resident of Opelousas. She died on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at 12:06 a.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center. She was retired from the City of Opelousas. She was a clerk for many years. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Cooking, laughing, comforting, and caring for others were her favorite pastimes. She was her grandchildren's biggest fan especially when she attended their events. Her positive influence, compassion, and gentleness will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Claiborne Clay Bertrand of Opelousas; three daughters: Linda Bertrand Darby and husband, Jerry of Eunice; Jullie Bertrand Cormier and husband, Matt of Grand Coteau; and Nicole Bertrand Matt and husband, Travis Matt of Boyce; one son, Les Bertrand and special friend, Phyllis Michel of Lafayette; two brothers: Floyd Stelly and wife, Betty and Larry Stelly and wife, Gloria , all of Port Barre; one sister, Geraldine Gerry Stelly Fontenot and husband, Shelton of Baton Rouge; and six grandchildren: Michael Luke Darby, Clay Matthew Cormier, Caine Michael Cormier, Harli Nicole Matt, Alli Monique Matt, and Jadi Dain Matt. She also has a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Mrs. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents: Clifton Stelly and Emma Guillory Stelly; and her daughter, Lisa Marie Bertrand.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Darby, Matt Cormier, Travis Matt, Floyd Stelly, Larry Stelly, Shelton Fontenot, Luke Darby, Clay Cormier, and Caine Cormier.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, April 18, 2008, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
A Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
