Joy Soileau

September 28, 1932 — February 4, 2012

OpelousasFuneral services for Mrs. Joy LaFleur Soileau, age 79, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2012, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell. Rev. Perry Hubbs will officiate the services. Musical selections for the services will be her favorite songsIn the Garden, Majesty, and Victory in Jesus.
She was a native of Lawtell and has resided in Opelousas for the last 39 years. She died on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Opelousas General Health System.
Mrs. Joy and her husband, Vernal spent 26 years of mission work with Campers on Mission helping to build churches and assisting with disaster relief all over the United States. Mrs. Joy loved going to all parts of the States and being a witness for our Lord and Savior. She loved to tell the story of Jesushow He gave his life on the cross for us and rose again, that we may live and have eternal life. She was a wonderful homemaker and family woman. She also loved to cook, bake cakes, paint and do arts and craft projects. She enjoyed her Sunday School Class, involved in church services, and spending time with her family especially the grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Vernal J. Soileau, Sr. of Opelousas sons, Keith W. Fontenot and wife, Genise of Opelousas Gary Fontenot of Port Barre daughters, Theresa Fontenot Hawkins and husband, Paul of Birmingham, AL and Darlene Fontenot Stepp and husband, David of Opelousas stepsons, Sherman Soileau and wife, Patti of Henderson Kermit Soileau and wife, Pam of Chipley, FL V. J. Soileau of Lawtell and Francis Soileau and wife, Vicki of Breaux Bridge stepdaughter, Charlotte Soileau Green and husband, Willie of Murchison, TX 12 grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, 3 greatgrandchildren, and 21 stepgreatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Flynn LaFleur and Leslie Carter LaFleur two sons, Ralph J. Butch Fontenot, Jr. and Randall Randy Fontenot first husband, Ralph Fontenot, Sr. and daughterinlaw, Alison Fontenot
Pallbearers will be David Fontenot, Matthew Fontenot, Keith Fontenot, David Stepp, Jared Stepp, and Paul Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Hawkins, Michael Fontenot, Zachary Fontenot, and members of the Campers on Mission.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012, from 3 pm to 9 pm in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8 am until time of service in the funeral home.
In Lieu of Flowers, the Soileau and Fontenot family requests that donations may be made to Campers on Mission or Louisiana Childrens Baptist Home in Monroe, LA.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Blanchard, Dr. Deblanc, Central Louisiana Home Health Care, LA Hospice and Palliative Care, St. Landry Council on Aging, Inc., Opelousas General Health System, Rev. Perry Hubbs, First Baptist Church of Opelousas, and all of the family, friends, and those that assisted them in Mrs. Joys care.
