Joseph Eldridge Chiasson

PORT BARRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Joseph “Eldridge” Chiasson on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 12:00 noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will celebrate the mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Eldridge, age 80, a resident of Port Barre, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 8, 2021, at his residence.

Eldridge served his country proudly in the United States Army. He enjoyed being outdoors, tending to his garden and going fishing. He was known for his craftsmanship and woodworking skills. Most of all Eldridge loved spending quality time with his family, friends and his beloved dog, Angel. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Hardy and husband, Roy of Port Barre, Cheryl Causey and husband, Dean of Port Barre, Jae’Del Fontenot and fiancé, Chance Dill of Schriever, LA; brother, Jim Chiasson and wife, Sharlene of Lafayette; 2 grandchildren, Ryan Robin and wife, Danielle of Port Barre, Amber Robin and fiancé, Alana Collins of Krotz Springs; 9 great-grandchildren, Myra Roze Dill, Tyler Causey, Peyton Causey, Brenden Perdue, Brayden Perdue, Landon Collins, Anisa Collins, Grayson Robin and Carson Robin.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Mary Ann Bellard-Chiasson; 2nd wife, Mary Lee Chiasson; parents, Edward and Azema Duplechain Chiasson; and sister, Shirley Rills-Bellard.

Pallbearers will be Roy Hardy, Hayden Schexnayder, Bob Artigue, Derek Fontenot, Peyton Causey and Eli Chelette. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Robin, Charles Lafleur and Dean Causey.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre.
