Opelousas– A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joseph “Brad” Douget on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Landry Catholic Church of Opelousas. Fr. James Brady will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Brad, a resident of Opelousas, entered into eternal rest at the age of 45, on Friday, November 4, 2022 at his residence.
From a young age Brad enjoyed the boy scouts and attained the Life Scout Rank. He also received the Masonic Honesty and Integrity Award. Brad graduated from Opelousas Catholic School in 1995. Growing up he assisted as an altar server at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. One of his favorite past times was attending baseball games with his Dad. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching LSU. Brad graduated from the University of Louisiana where he received a Bachelor of Arts. He loved serving his community and often volunteered for community events, such as the local cemetery tours. He was also an avid coin collector and loved finding new coins to grow his collection. Brad cherished spending time with family and loved his niece and nephew fiercely. Brad will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Brad is survived by his father, Coach James W. Douget; brother, James “David” Douget; sister, Erin Leigh Douget Cook and husband, James “Colby” Cook; and their children, Brad’s niece and nephew, James Daly “J.D.” Cook and Lily Evangeline Cook.
Brad is preceded in death by his mother, Susan Burleigh Douget; his infant sister, Aimeé Catherine Douget; maternal grandparents, George Burleigh and Inez Prudhomme Burleigh; and paternal grandparents, Alfred Douget and Evelyn M. Douget.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
