Joseph Young, Sr.

Opelousas- A Funeral Service will be held for Joseph Walter Young, Sr. on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Fr. Clint Trahan will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Joseph, age 73, a resident of Church Point, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, LA.

He enjoyed playing in his band Laissez Faire, playing the accordion and painting. He was a member of the American Legion Post 225 in Church Point, the Vietnam Veterans Association and the VFW.

He is survived by his sons, Travis Thibodeaux and wife, Kim of Church Point and Mitchell Shane Olivier and wife, Sarah of Church Point; daughters, Desiree Leger and husband, Junior of Church Point and Michelle Olivier and husband, Richie of Church Point; brothers, Reginald “Boudin” Young and wife, Carla of Lake Arthur and Joseph Gelton Young and wife, Cathy of Marrero; sister, Dru Guillory of Odessa, TX; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Linda Gail Sonnier Young; mother, Lillie Mae Doucet Gautreaux; father, Clarence J. Young; brother, Daniel Lee Young; paternal grandparents, Maxine and Winnie Young; and maternal grandparents, Gregrois and Myrtle Doucet.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Gelton Young, Jr., Bralyn Bellard, Richie Olivier, Derick Pousson, BJ Boudreaux and Joseph Gelton Young, Sr.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 25, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 2:00 p.m. on Monday by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home for the care they gave Joseph, especially their nurses, Mrs. Amy and Mrs. Susan, as well as Lamm Hospice of Crowley and their nurse, Krystal Boudreaux.
