Opelousas– A Funeral Service for Joseph Sonnier will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Fr. Matthew Higginbotham will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Mr. Sonnier, age 81, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his family.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie Joan Stelly Sonnier; sons, Ted Michael Sonnier and wife, Joyce of Carencro, Keith James Sonnier and companion, Lainey Humphries of Nuba; daughter, Cheryl Fontenot and husband, Ricky of Opelousas; brothers, Allen Sonnier of Bueche, Mervin Sonnier of Eunice; sisters, Wilma Daigle of Church Point, Mildred Beard of Church Point, Helen Young of Church Point, Linda Guidroz of Livonia; 8 grandchildren, Kristen Sonnier, Kristopher Sonnier, Nick Beard, Cody Fontenot, Desiree Fontenot, Natalie Ann Bennett, Celeste Rae Sonnier, Nicholas Curly; 11 great-grandchildren, Josilyn, Chayse, Graysen, Kaiden, Brantlee, Marley, Paisley, Brace, Noah, Mia Kate and Carlee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Yves and Olinde Sonnier.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m.
