Joseph Mickey Soileau
Port Barre- Funeral services for Joseph Mickey Soileau, age 81, will be held at 2 :00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Port Barre. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mickey was born in Ville Platte and was a long time resident of Port Barre. He died on September 23, 2009, in Opelousas General Health System.
Mickey was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served during WWII as an Able Seaman. He received the WWII Victory Medal. He was a past member of the Opelousas V.F.W. and a member of the American Legion of Port Barre. He was a retired insurance salesman and then he worked diligently with St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency as a Senior Companion volunteer. He was best known for his French music and he played the guitar for over 50 years.
He was very helpful and very giving man who enjoyed helping others. He lived his life by the motto People helping People. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Mourning his death yet cherishing his memories is his two daughters: Belinda Duhon and husband, Vince; and Monica Garcia and husband, Alex of Richmond, TX; one step-son, Joseph Gary Lefleur of Port Barre; and wife, Holly of Port Barre; two sisters, five grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline Marie Stelly Soileau; and his parents: Johnnie A. Soileau and Aza Ardoin Soileau.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Port Barre on Friday, September 25, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
