Opelousas Funeral services for Joseph Sebastien, age 83, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Father Jim Brady will celebrate the Mass.
J. L. was a native of Plaisance and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at St. Landry Extended Care.
J.L. was an avid fishermen, loved Cajun Music and playing the Tri Angle with Ms. June. He was Third Order of the Missionaries of the Holy Trinity. He was a past Yambilee Sr. King for 2010. He was Vice President of the residents Association of Prompt Succor Nursing Home. He was a very patient, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife Mrs. Alice June Sebastien of Opelousas, daughter, Karen Tweedel and husband, Rodney of Church Point, sister, Norma Sebastien Hargroder and her husband, Larry of Opelousas, three grandchildren Andrea Miller, Chris Daigle, and Mary Tweedel, and three great grandchildren Victoria Miller, Zachary Miller, and Chloe Daigle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Elizabeth Pitre Sebastien, one daughter, Elizabeth Liz Potier, brothers, Archie, Donald, and Raymond Sebastien.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, from 2 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
