Joseph Ollen Miller
Carencro, La. --- Funeral services for Joseph Ollen Miller, 86, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008, in the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Carencro. Interment will follow in the St. Peter's Mausoleum, Carencro.
Father Bill Melancon will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mr. Miller was born in Grand Coteau, he and his wife lived in Opelousas for many years. He spent a lot of his time in the Krotz Springs area, on three mile lake and was currently residing in Duson. Mr. Miller passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at his residence in Duson after a lengthy illness.
He was a salesman by profession having worked for Ogilvie Wholesale Hardware Company of Shreveport, La for 42 years. Mr. Miller attended Sunset High School, Sunset, La and then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939 and served for 2 years. He then in 1942 married is lovely wife Hazel Leger. In 1943 he was drafted into the Army and served for two years during WW II. In 1987 Ollen retired from Ogilvie and moved to his camp on 3 Mile Lake, Krotz Springs, a place that he loved dearly. He was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Krotz Springs, serving as an usher every Sunday. Ollen was a Honorary part time deputy with the St. Landry Sheriffs Department under Sheriff Howard Zerangue and Bobby Guidroz. He also served under Sheriff Laura Baltazar whom he loved dearly. He is going to be sadly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include daughters; Beverly Melancon and husband Al, Duson, Judy Miller, Lafayette, and Jacqueline Peanut Davy and husband George, Opelousas; sisters, Thelma Guilbeau, Opelousas, Adley Kidder, Carencro, Dorothy Cormier, Carencro; grandchildren, Wendy Melancon, Baton Rouge, Paul Melancon, Lafayette, Ashley and Maghan Davy, Opelousas, Ryan Reed, New Iberia and great grandchildren, Brian Melancon, Columbia, Mackenzie and Trevor Melancon, Lafayette.
Mr. Ollen was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Leger Miller; parents, John and Lovinia Savoie Miller; brother Mickey Miller.
Pallbearers will be, Al Melancon, George Davy, Paul Melancon and Ryan Reed.
Visiting hours will be observed on Friday, December 5, 2008, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Saturday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home on Friday evening.
