Joseph Marks, Jr.

Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Dewey Marks, Jr., known to many as J.D., were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 with a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre. Msgr. Romero conducted the services. The readings for the Mass were done by Lori Pennison and Lani Devalcourt. The gift bearers were Casey Marks and Brandy Marks. Music was provided by Valerie Andrus.

Mr. J. D. Marks, 46, was a resident of Port Allen and died at 8 p.m. on Sunday October 15, 2006, in Port Allen. Mr. Marks was killed as a result of an automobile accident while driving home from working on his brothers farm. Mr. Marks was employed by his nephew, Todd Marks, owner of Bayou Transportation Service in Pride, LA. He also worked with his brother on his sugar cane farm. Mr. Marks was a very loving father, brother and son and enjoyed spending as much time as he possibly could with his family. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include parents, Joseph Dewey Marks, Sr. and Neva Kimble Marks of Port Barre; wife, Sandra Moss Marks of Saint Lucia, Florida; one son, Joshua Eric Marks of Port Barre; two daughters: Casey Marie Marks and friend, Cody Carriere of Port Barre; and Kimberly Nicole Marks of Port Barre; two brothers: Nelson Marks and wife, Janice of Lakeland; and Steve Marks and wife, Tammy of Lakeland; one sister, Mrs. Donna Devalcourt and husband, Ferrell of Napoleonville; 2 nephews: Todd Marks and Shane Marks; and 6 nieces: Carolyn Sanchez, Valerie Cloutre, Jessica Marks, Lori Pennison, Brandy Marks, and Lani Devalcourt.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Marie Marks.

Pallbearers were Sidney, Todd, Ferrell, Lionel, Brett, and Shane.

Visiting hours were observed from 3-10 PM on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Wednesday, visitation continued from 8 AM until service time. A rosary was recited at 7 PM on Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
