Joseph Joe Marks

Opelousas- Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Joe Marks, age 79, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, with a Mass of Christian burial in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. Father Kenneth Domingue will celebrate the Mass.

Mr. Joe was a native of the Arnaudville area and was a long-time resident of Opelousas. He died on Saturday, August 8, 2009, in the Opelousas General Health System. He was a sales representative for Nabisco for 32 years. He was also a veteran who served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors camping, hunting, and fishing. He also collected coins and antiques. His family was the center of his life, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored him greatly. He was a devoted husband of 53 years, a wonderful father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be sadly missed by all.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gloria Lalonde Marks of Opelousas; two sons: Michael J. Marks and wife, Audrey of Leonville; and Randal D. Marks of Opelousas; two daughters: Diana Marks Broussard and husband, Timothy of Opelousas; and Monica M. Lafleur and husband, Rickey J. Lafleur, Sr. of Opelousas; two brothers: Charles Marks and wife, Dot of Port Barre; and Jean Merrick Marks of Opelousas; two sisters: Mable Kidder of Baton Rouge; and Anna Jane Marks of Lafayette; special friend of the family, Velma Mayon of Leonville; grandchildren: Corey Broussard, Sherrie Trahan, Eve Marks, Joseph Benjamin Marks, Michelle Marks Bernard, Jeremy Broussard, Jamie Broussard, Christian Marks, Rickey Lafleur, Jr.; and great-grandchildren: Keely, Shawn, Tristan, Holden, Ambria, Sarah, CJ, Madison, Emma, Nathan, Jacob, Ami, Claire, Blaysn, and Noah; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents: Emar and Justine Marks; and one brother, Dudley Marks.

Pallbearers will be Corey Broussard, Jeremy Broussard, Lil' Joe Marks, Rickey Lafleur, Jr., Shane Bernard, and Jason Jeansonne. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Marks, Randal Marks, Rickey Lafleur, Sr., Harold Trahan, and Timothy Broussard.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2009, from 2 p.m. -10 p.m.in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
