Joseph Leger

October 15, 1919 — March 3, 2012

Grand Coteau Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Aaron Leger, known to many as Lulu, age 92, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery. Father James Lambert will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Leger passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 3, 2012, at his residence.

He was a native of Cankton and a longtime resident of Sunset. He was the owner of Sunset Cleaners for 48 years. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau and served as a past usher. He was also a member of the Cleaners Association. In his spare time, he would enjoy doing woodworking, building birdhouses and crche for Nativity Scenes, and going gardening. He was a loving husband, and a devoted father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather who will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Gernsie Murrell Leger of Sunset one daughter, Patricia Pat Leger Sonnier of Sunset three grandchildren: Joseph Joe Sonnier II of Sunset Robert Sonnier and wife, Emily of Austin, TX and Darla Sonnier of Sunset and greatgrandchildren: Rachel Johnson, Leah Johnson, Nicholas Cole Johnson, and Zachary Taylor, all of Sunset Olivia Sonnier and Lucy Sonnier, both of Austin, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aurelien Leger and Aurelia Savoie Leger soninlaw, Joseph V. Sonnier brothers, Elridge, Elliott, Clarence Dago, Edward, and Alton Leger and sisters, Louise Boudreaux, Elise Miller, and Agnes Cary.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012, from 4 pm to 9 pm in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8 am until 10:30 am in the funeral home.

A Rosary service will be held at 7 pm on Sunday evening in the funeral home.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Mr. Joseph Leger to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana for their medical care during his illness.
