Opelousas Funeral services for Joseph G. Jerry Leger, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bridget Catholic Church and a burial in St. Bridget Cemetery, both of Lawtell.
Mr. Leger, a native of Church Point and longtime resident of Prairie Ronde, died at 8:57 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at Opelousas General Health System. He was a member of the St. Bridgette Catholic Church and also was a farmer. Mr. Leger loved playing the violin.
Survivors include five sons: Charles Leger of Opelousas, Paul Leger, Lionel Leger, Wilbert Blanc Leger and Eldon Donnie Leger, all of Prairie Ronde; three daughters: Rita Arnaud, Mrs. Nolan Geri Venable, both of Prairie Ronde, and Brenda Henry of Opelousas; two brothers: Joe Leger of Opelousas and Auaton Leger of Church Point; 21 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
BRMr. Leger was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Darbonne Leger; his parents: Geracin Leger and Azelie Benoit; one sister, Mrs. Odess Stelly; and four brothers.
Visiting hours will be observed from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Friday, visitation continues in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
