OPELOUSAS- Funeral services for Joseph Dudley Emon, known to many as "J.D." will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2015, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Father Austin Leger will officiate the services. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park with military honors.
J. D. passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas at the age of 86. He was born in Leonville and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He worked as a machinist and was known as "Sarge" at Dimmick Supply Co. in Opelousas for over 49 years.
He was a Veteran who served in the U. S. Army as a Sgt. during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star and the UN Service Medal. He was a past member of the VFW Post in Opelousas and the American Legion Post of Leonville. He was currently a member of the Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard, and gardening. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived his wife of 62 years, Betty Deranger Emon of Opelousas; two daughters, Marla Emon Meaux and husband, Sam of Breaux Bridge; and Susan Emon Zerangue and husband, Kent of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Josh Meaux and wife, Christy; Ashley Zerangue Freni and husband, Chris; Christopher Zerangue and fiancée, Amy Ye; and Courtney Zerangue; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Ann Meaux and Caden James Freni.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Emon and Odelie Mallet Emon; and one brother, Charles Emon.
The family requested visiting hours on Sunday, October 11, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The Rosary will be recited by Deacon Sammy Diesi at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff of Prompt Succor Nursing Home, LA Hospice and Palliative Care, Dr. Gary Blanchard, and Dr. Hunt deBlanc for their wonderful care.
