Grand Coteau A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton, LA, for Mr. Joseph Dale Richard who was known to his family and friends as Dale. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau, LA. Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington will be the celebrant of the Mass.
Dale was born in Sunset and lived all of his life there. He passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012, at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home in Carencro at the age of 85.
He was a graduate of Sunset High School and finished Spencer Business College. He worked for Dominique Stockyards for a number of years. He started a clothes cleaning business in Sunset. He also owned Sinclair Station and Restaurant in Sunset. He farmed soybeans and raised cattle and horses until he retired.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran Post WWII who served in during the Occupation of Japan as a Communications Chief. He served on the St. Landry Parish School Board for 16 years, and was President of the Board for 4 years. He also served on the St. Landry Parish Drainage Board. He was a member of the Cattlemens Association for many years.
Survivors include his son, Dave Richard and wife, Linda of Broussard one sister, Riberta Richard Monteilh and husband, Henry of Sunset and one grandson, Beau Joseph Richard of Opelousas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George French Richard and Selima Boudreaux Richard one sister, Mary Lou Richard and his wife of 57 years, Grace Girouard Richard.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau on Saturday, November 10, 2012, from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Sunday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evening in the funeral home.
