Joseph Andy Stelly, Sr.
Opelousas- Funeral services for Joseph Andy Stelly, age 92, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder will officiate the service.
Mr. Andy was a resident of Opelousas. He died on October 21, 2009, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
Mr. Andy was in the Knights of Columbus 3409, and a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. During his life time he was a premiere home builder. He enjoyed hunting mainly dove, quail and rabbits. He worked for Delta Shipyards for three years in New Orleans during the Second World War. After this he came back to Opelousas to began his home building business.
Mr. Andy is survived by his loving wife of seventy two years, Mrs. Zetta Reed Stelly. He has five sons, Warren Stelly and wife Marlene, of Lafayette, Jay Stelly and wife Judy of Lafayette, Willis Stelly and wife Connie, of Baton Rouge, Raymond Stelly and wife Brenda of Baton Rouge, and Tommy Stelly of Lafayette, and one daughter, Joyce Stelly Bourque, of Opelousas, one sister, Norma Stelly Beaugh, and husband, George, of Morgan City, and two sister-In-laws, Marita Stelly of New Iberia, and Shirley Stelly of Lafayette, sixteen grand-children and thirteen great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren. To his family, Mr. Andy was the best husband, father, brother, grand -father and great -grand- father in the world. He will be sadly missed by all.
Proceeded in death by his parents, Willis Stelly and Eve Frederick Stelly, three brothers, Alex Stelly, Dewey Stelly, and Emar Stelly, two sisters Anna Lou Stelly Soileau, and Edith Stelly Franchilais.
