Johnny Dunbar, Sr.

Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Dunbar, Sr., 79, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, in the Port Barre United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.

Mr. Johnny was a life-long resident of Port Barre and died at Opelousas General Health System at 11:26 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2008.

Mr. Johnny spent his lifetime being involved with the Port Barre Fire Department and was the Fire Chief for many years. He also was extremely active as a charter member and a Melvin Jones Fellow in the Port Barre Lion's Club. He was also a member of the Port Barre United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors and hunting. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Dorothy Duplechain Dunbar of Port Barre; two sons: Johnny J. Punkin Dunbar, Jr. and wife, Renee of Port Barre; and Gerald Jerry Dunbar of Denver, CO; one brother, Donald Bootsey Dunbar and wife, Mary Alice of Delcambre; three grandchildren: Randy Dunbar and wife, Crystal of Port Barre; Jamie Moran and husband, Craig of Krotz Springs; and Chad Dunbar of Port Barre; and two great-grandchildren: Allie Moran of Krotz Springs and Sadie Dunbar of Port Barre.

Mr. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents: John C. Dunbar and Onie Hayes Dunbar; and two brothers: Gerald Shelby Dunbar and Oscar Lloyd Dunbar.

Visiting hours will be observed from 2 p.m.-9 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2008 in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
