Johnie Wayne Johnson

September 10, 1947 — April 3, 2025

Johnie Wayne Johnson passed away on April 3, 2025, at 77 years old. Surrounded by his loving family and friends in his final moments, it was evident that he was a man who brought great joy to all who knew him. He was a steadfast husband, God-instilling father, comical grandfather, and the truest of a friend.

Johnie was born on September 10, 1947, in Bunkie, Louisiana. He was the son of Rena and Felix Howard Johnson Sr. He was reared in Melville, Louisiana in a small home that held more love than the walls could hold. Together with his seven siblings, Johnie was part of the spirited Johnson clan, a family known for their infectious humor, boundless laughter, and mischievous antics who brought love and joy to everyone around them. Throughout his upbringing, he was taught the importance of family, laughter, hard work, and a love for God. He carried these values throughout his life which was easily visible to all of those around him.

In 1965, at the young age of eighteen, Johnie married the love of his life, Linda Guillot Johnson. Their bond was a true testament of the power of love and commitment. Together, they built a beautiful life rearing their five children: Gregory Johnson, Jeffery Johnson (Angela), Rhonda Reeves (Barry), Tilman Myers (Mandy), and Johnny Johnson (Celesta). Their marriage illustrated the true definition of forgiveness and strength while forever being a cherished example of what the true meaning of love is for their family and all who knew them.

Johnie’s greatest title was being known as “Pop” and he wore it proudly. His happiest times were spent with his family especially his ten grandchildren: Joshua Johnson, Heather Johnson and Jacob Johnson; Connor Watson and Craig Watson; Kayla Myers Babin, and Tyman Myers; Hannah Johnson Aymond, Emalise Johnson and John Layne Johnson, along with his six bonus grandchildren: Kaylee Bergeron, Anniston Bergeron, and Parker Bergeron; Britney Duvall, Kayla Boudreaux, and Brandi Stelly. He was immensely proud of his family, often bragging about their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. Johnie also found immense joy in his six great-grandchildren: Cecilia, Silas, Beaumont, Magnolia, Katherine, and Tyler. He was very proud of his growing family and truly loved every one of them. He was undeniably the greatest grandfather, and all of his family adored him.

Johnie was a man of integrity. He was hardworking and a man of his word. He worked as an operator for the Local 406 for many years. In fact, he retired more than once because his love for operating equipment never stopped. He always had open arms, ready to lend a helping hand or pray with anyone in need. He taught and instilled in his family the importance of hard work and dedication, but above all, he taught them a profound love for God. His love for God was unwavering and was evident in everything he did. Johnie was the true definition of how God can change your life and how to live for God.

Johnie was also the greatest hunter and fisherman, especially through the eyes of his sons and grandchildren. Through the countless hunting trips to the camp and the many fishing trips on his boat, Jonnie remained the same steadfast and humble man he was every Sunday morning even though he was known for telling exaggerated hunting stories or often claiming he had “only seen does” not revealing the monster buck he had been watching. These stories were always of great amusement to his family and friends. His sense of humor was one of his most defining qualities. He had a gift of making everyone around him laugh. His unending jokes and laughter will be greatly missed.

Johnie was preceded in death by his parents Rena and Felix Howard Johnson Sr.; his brothers Felix Johnson Jr., Raymond Reed Johnson, William “Ray” Johnson, and his sister Anna Joyce Jones. He is survived by his loving wife Linda and their five children, thirteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Lessie Sicard, Pete Johnson, and Tommy Johnson. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
