Opelousas– A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for John “Dwain” Benoit on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Dwain, age 57, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Opelousas General Health System surrounded by his loving family.
Dwain will be remembered as a loving family man who adored his grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking and spending time outdoors going fishing and hunting. Dwain was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a hard worker who built a career over 24 years as a sales manager with Olinde’s Furniture, Courvelle Toyota and Courtesy Ford. Dwain recently became employed with EMCOR where he pursued his A/C business maintenance career. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Dwain is survived by wife of 36 years, Stephanie Hooks Benoit; sons, Kaleb Aaron Benoit and Joshua Blake Benoit; mother, Margaret Ortego Benoit; brother, Alfred “Bubba” Benoit; sister, Margaret Benoit Fontenot and husband, Shane; 4 grandchildren, Sophia Elizabeth Benoit, Viviann Rose Benoit, Chase Michael Benoit and Jaxston James Benoit; nieces and nephews, Mallory Fontenot, Kimberly Kincaid, Gabe Klein (Godchild), Bailey Hooks (Godchild), Addison Hooks, Destin Marks, Taylor Baham, Caden Journet, Kristie Benoit, Beau Benoit, Jonah Fontenot and Jada Fontenot; sister-in-law, Cindy Klein and Stacey Hooks; brother-in-law, Chris Hooks; mother-in-law, Sandra Christine Hooks; special friends, Robert Menard (cousin), James Klein (brother-in-law), and A.B. Courvelle, Jr.
Dwain is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Leonce Benoit; sister & godchild, Dwauna Marie Benoit; father-in-law, Curtis Hooks, Jr.; parrain, Leon “Red” Benoit; and nanny, Willie Mae Smith.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 12:00 noon until 10:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Jerome Collins. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Kaleb Benoit, Joshua Benoit, James Klein, Robert Menard, Chris Hooks and Bailey Hooks.
