John Venable

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. John Joffery Venable will be held
on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Reverend Father Mitch Guidry will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery.

Mr. John Joffery Venable, a local businessman passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at St. Landry Extended Care Hospital in Opelousas at the age of 77. He was born and raised in Church Point and resided in Lawtell for the past 58 years. He was the market manager for a local grocery store for many years. He enjoyed making sausage and boudin as a pastime and shared these with his family and friends. He also loved being outdoors working in the yard with his plants and animals. He will be sadly missed and was loved by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Bourgeois Venable of Lawtell sister, Leona Guillory and husband, Leroy of Church Point brotherinlaw, Aubrey Bourgeois and wife, Kathleen of Naples, FL sisterinlaw, Wilda Begnaud and husband, John J.C. Begnaud of Lewisburg nephews, Dwayne Begnaud of San Antonio, TX Kirk Guillory of Austin, TX and Kevin Bourgeois and Mike Bourgeois, both of Lafayette nieces, Deborah Fruge and husband, Glenn of San Antonio, TX Paula Daigle of Nashville, TN Debbie Guillory of Church Point Darlene Guillory of Kingwood, TX Arlene Frazier and husband, Houston of Kingwood, TX and great nieces and nephews, Summer Frazier, Ryan Guillory, and Chase Frazier. He also loved all of his godchildren dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphan Venable and Eve Guidry Venable fatherinlaw and motherinlaw, Carlton and Isaure Pitre Bourgeois and brother, Leander Black Venable and his wife, Burna.

Visitation will be held in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A Rosary Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
