John Ellis Sylvester, Sr.
Opelousas Funeral services for John Ellis Sylvester, Sr., 82, were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel and burial followed in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.
Father Angelo Cremaldi conducted the Mass.
Mr. Sylvester was a native of Washington, LA, and died at 5:45 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006, at his residence in Elm Grove, LA. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. John spent his free time with family and friends hunting and enjoying the outdoors. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Sylvester enjoyed raising and riding horses in his younger days. He was a U. S. Army Cpl and a Veteran of WWII. His career was in the trucking industry as a driver and later as a manager of a small trucking firm. After retirement, John moved to Lake Bistineau in Northwest Louisiana.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patricia Marie Hanson Sylvester of Elm Grove, LA; two sons: John Ellis Sylvester, Jr. and wife, Lois of Winona, MS; and Lynn Douglas Sylvester and wife, Michelle of Highland, TX; two daughters: Cynthia Marie Echols and husband, Dan of Round Rock, TX; and Shirley Ann Hazel and husband, Richard of Conroe, TX; one brother, Lester Sylvester of Prairieville, LA; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Edna Huguet Sylvester.
P Visiting hours were observed from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Wednesday, visitation continued from 8 a.m. until the time of services. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral
