Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. John C. Smithey, known to many as Johnny, age 68, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2011, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Rev. Benny Reppond will officiate the services.
Johnny was born in Houston, Texas, was a past resident of Opelousas and was currently residing in Scott, LA. He died on Friday, September 30, 2011, at his home. He was a Wireline Supervisor in the oilfield for many years. He enjoyed listening to music, was a DJ, and was also a Musician for most of his life. He started his musical career by playing the saxophone where he played in numerous bands, including Tommy McClain and The Boogie Kings. His greatest honor was being inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.
As a pastime, Johnny played Fantasy Football with his friends. He enjoyed spending time visiting with his familyespecially his grandchildren, and friends. He was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Survivors include two sons, John Michael Smithey of Monroe and Perry Wayne Smithey and wife, Paula Smithey of Opelousas one daughter, Stacey Robinson and husband, Buck Robinson of Scott one brother, James Gordon Smithey of Toledo Bend, TX eleven grandchildren: Adrian, Ross, Shelby, Allie Fay, Sydney, Gannon, Kade, B.J., Britney, Samantha, and Bobby and five greatgrandchildren: Owen, Kaylor, Ashlyn, Mylie, and Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Armstrong Smithey, Sr. and Flora Miller Smithey two brothers, Robert Wayne Smithey and Oscar Armstrong Smithey, Jr. and the mother of his children, Fay Smithey.
Pallbearers will be John Michael Smithey, Perry Wayne Smithey, Buck Robinson, Ross Smithey, Heath Perry, and Hunter Perry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Adrian Artigue and B. J. Robinson.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
