John Dudley Mallet
Arnaudville, Louisiana- The Funeral Mass for John Dudley Mallet, 70, will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Church in Leonville with interment in the church cemetery. He passed away at Opelousas General Health Systems on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Father Kenneth Domingue will celebrate the Mass.
Dudley was born in Leonville, the son of the late Emar Mallet and Marie Lanclos Mallet. He was a longtime resident of Platin, the rural area between Arnaudville and Leonville. He graduated from Leonville High School in 1957 and served in the United States Army at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He worked briefly in New Orleans but returned home to work in the farm implements business. He was manager and co-owner of Dixie Tractor Company and later salesman and manager for Progressive Tractor Company. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served the local council as financial secretary. He loved gardening and had a passion for the more than sixty pecan trees which he lovingly gazed upon as he prayed the rosary. He was particularly devoted to his family and especially proud of his three beautiful granddaughters who called him Pappy.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Jeanette Barron Mallet; his son, Fr. W. Curtis Mallet of Lafayette; his two daughters, Avia Meche and her husband, Kenneth Meche; Iris Badeaux and her husband, Richard Badeaux; three granddaughters, Lainey Meche, Victoria Badeaux and Olivia Badeaux; one brother, Dudjay Mallet and his wife, Aspazie Duplechin Mallet, all of Arnaudville.
Visitation will be at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas 2309 George Drive on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
