John E. Goutreaux
Grand Coteau Funeral services for Mr. John E. Goutreaux, age 75, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Catholic Church, Grand Coteau. Interment will follow in the St. Charles Mausoleum.
Father James Lambert, SJ will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
John was a native of Lewisburg, La. and was a longtime resident of Sunset, La. He died on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.
Mr. Goutreaux was the manager of the Food Preservation Lab at Sunset High School, a division of the St. Landry Parish School System until his retirement. John was a first responder for the Sunset Volunteer Fire Department he served as the assistant Chief and SecretaryTreasurer of the Fire Department. John was a life time member of the La. State Firemans Association served as the Civil Defense Director for the Town of Sunset served in the La. National Guard for 8 years was chosen as the Man of the Year and received the Distinguished Service to Mankind Award from the Sunset Sertoma Club but his greatest treasure was being a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. John enjoyed working in his garden, going fishing, camping and cooking and eating with his family and friends. One of his greatest loves was being a part of the St. Charles choir and singing in Church. John is going to be missed by all that loved and knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Nelwyn Nellie Devalcourt Goutreaux daughters, Jonell G. Guidry and husband James of Sunset, Charisse G. LeBlanc and husband Bobby J of LaPorte, TX sisters Allee Marie Ray of Sarepta, La., Jeanette Thibodeaux and husband Edmond of Opelousas grandchildren, Lainie LeBlanc Ramon, Andre LeBlanc and Bobby J. LeBlanc, Jr. and 3 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Isabelle Miller Goutreaux brothers, Bell Lawrence Toby Goutreaux and Paul TBoy Goutreaux.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau on Sunday, April 25, 2010, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until time of service A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
